Help Displaced Pets - Gustav

puppyNormally when you visit this site you can be assured of learning something computer related. After reading my daily fix of Twitter, I found a tweet by @Dana_Willhoit that I would like to share with you. She and other Twitter members have put together a blog to help displaced animals in need due to Gustav (Gulf Storm).

Please visit the Gustav Pets site http://gustavpets.com and do what you can to contribute to saving the lives of desperate animals in need of your immediate assistance.  Also, if you own a blog could you PLEASE spread the word with a gracious post directing others to the Gustav Pets site http://gustavpets.com and help the cause? You can make a difference.

I’ve Been Tagged

I have to give a special “Thank You” to Pai from http://thepaisano.com. Being tagged is a game bloggers play where they have to write six random things about their self, and tag six other people.

Honestly this was a great deal of fun for me, I enjoyed having to reflect random “About Me” ideas which others may not know about myself.

So here goes:

1. TV is not something I choose to watch much of, I much prefer reading a manual (sick I know - I am a true geek chick).
2. Being outside during a hot muggy night and sitting on my classic 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Regency Ninty-Eight’s trunk and gaze at the stars, is one of my all time summer favorites (it use to be grandpa’s car).
3. I am a collector of skeleton keys, vintage typewritters, and keychains from worldly travels.
4. Really enjoy trying new food and am pretty much open to anything.
5. Borders computer book section is where you can find me if I am MIA.
6. Long walks with my family and dog is something I look forward to at the end of the day.

Here are the rules:

Okay, for those of you tagged, here (apparently) are the rules, as I was given:
1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on the blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post.
5. Let each person know they have been tagged.
6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

Here are the following six people I tag:

DaddysToolBox

Got Gyazickr?

iPhoneAre you having difficulty sending photo’s to friends on Twitter? Want something quick, reliable, and fun? Gyazickr for the iPhone makes sharing photos fast, easy, and fun.

Recently I purchased an iPhone from AT&T. Being the geek that I am, my personality enjoys exploring new gadgets and gizmos. Anything to save time and make life easier.

As you may have figured out through previous posts, I enjoy utilizing Twitter to network and meet great individuals (like yourself). While exploring the Apple App Store on my new iPhone, I located a great application called Gyazickr, which allows iPhone users to upload photo’s and share the selection with other Twitter users as a tweet.

Gyazickr allows you to upload a desired photo from your iPhone with a caption. Gyazickr works as a Twitter application only, not a client. If you are looking for a Twitter iPhone client I would recommend TwitterFon.

How to set up Gyazickr

Setting up Gyazickr is as simple as logging into Twitter.
1. After you have download the application use your Twitter user ID and password to log in.

2. Gyazickr will give you a “Everything Worked Beautifully” message, indicating your setup was a success.

3. In order to locate your image on your iPhone use either of the two icons located in the lower left of the application and maneuver to your image of choice.
4. Decide which image from your iPhone you wish share as a tweet on Twitter.
5. Enter a caption.
6. Select “Post” in the lower right hand side to forward your new photo tweet onto Twitter.

Lets Remain Private, Shall We?

Sharing images with friends can lead to wonderful conversations. My advise to anyone who is new to sending images via the Internet, would be to NOT upload anything you do not wish to share with the world. If you wish for an image to remain private, do not share it on the Internet.

What Do You Like?

Please have fun with this application. Drop me a comment to let me know what you prefer to use on your iPhone for image sharing. I would love to hear from you!

Are You Mobile Friendly?

Statistically mobile usage is on the rise. More and more individuals are utilizing the Internet through their mobile devices and non mobile devices (iPod touch and PDA’s). How many of those are you reaching?

In today’s society most individuals are trying to cram a vast amount of information in a short period of time. The Internet is being accessed during a busy train ride to work, a bus ride to school, and often during a long car drive. For users on the go more often than not, if a website is not mobile friendly and easily maneuverable the user will leave the site and move on.

How To Make Your Blog Mobile Friendly

Wordpress makes it very easy for web designers to reap the rewards of a mobile friendly site. Simply enabled the Mobile Edition Plugin by Alex King http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-mobile-edition. A word of caution, as with any other plugin read the related installation instructions.

iPhone Mobile Friendly

iPhone PluginOne feature which I would like to share with you is the iPhone Wordpress plugin. It seems that the iPhone has its own separate Wordpress plugin. Recently, I installed this plugin and confirmed the functionality and flawless behavior. The website makes mention of what versions of Wordpress it is compatible with. Please research the installation for yourself and confirm your compatibility.

Is Your Site iPhone Ready?

As you can see from the iPhone screen shot, my site is mobile friendly. Download your iwphone plugin today and make your site available to a broader audiance http://iwphone.contentrobot.com/2007/07/04/iwphone-wordpress-plugin-and-theme.

The download for the iPhone plugin is about half way down the website page under “Download.” At first glace you would expect a download feature towards the top of the site, however this is not the case and just pursue down the page a bit.

Good luck with making your site mobile friendly, and please leave feedback for others who may wish to add this feature to their blog.

Things a Computer Technician Won’t Tell You

Nearly everyone at some point in their life has needed the expert advise of a computer technician. Even some of the best computer technicians have sought out a second opinion.

But, have you ever wondered what that computer technician thought, as they went through the process to diagnose your computer?

1. Empty Recycle Bin/Trash

Did you know, when you drag an item into the “Recycle Bin/Trash”, it is not disposed of until you actually open the Recycle Bin/Trash and select “Empty the Recycle Bin/Trash.”

This recycle bin/trash can say a great deal for some users who prefer to have their matters remain private. Although I would not have anything to hide by someone reading my garbage, it is a privacy issue. Technicians may wonder into your recycle bin (for diagnostic purposes only) and find some images and/or articles you would not like to share.

2. Don’t Save EVERYTHING to Your Desktop

Although it is very tempting to save everything to your desktop, after a while you cannot see the lovely wallpaper you carefully choose. Organization is the key. Live in clutter, and your mind will become cluttered.

Funny, my uncle is the king of saving everything he can find and doesn’t want to loose, to his desktop. After a while, there are so many icons on his desktop, he cannot find it anyway!
1. Make a folder on your desktop labeled “Stuff”
2. In the “Stuff” folder, drag all those important items you don’t want to loose into this folder
3. Now your desktop looks so organized! Later when you have time, open your “Stuff” folder and create more folders with identifiable names applicable to the information you just stored in there. For example: Stuff -> Logo -> WebDazzling -> Posts

3. Make Sure its Plugged In

As simple as it may seem, I cannot count how many times I have been called to fix a computer and it was not plugged it. There is clearly a ghost that goes from house to house and likes to pull pranks. This ghost has even been to my house. My husband can attest to it.

These are just a few simple things computer technicians talk about when your not around. Remember to empty your garbage, be organized, and stay plugged in; then you will rule the world (or at least your computer).
